The United States’ first-ever special envoy for LGBT rights, Randy Berry, is set to visit Taiwan on Sunday for a four-day trip. That’s according to the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT).

The AIT is the de facto US embassy in Taiwan in the absence of official ties.

The AIT said on Friday that Berry will meet with Taiwanese officials and civil society representatives to discuss how to work together to promote LGBT rights.

Taiwan is Berry’s first stop in Asia. He will also visit Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, South Korea, and Japan.

Before assuming his current post last April, Berry served as the US Consul General in Amsterdam. He has also been stationed in New Zealand, Nepal, Bangladesh, Egypt, South Africa and Uganda.
