Mainland Chinese travelers began making transit stops in Taiwan for the first time in history on Monday. The first travelers passed through Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport en route to Thailand and the United States.
In the first phase, China is allowing travelers from three Chinese cities – Chongqing, Kunyang, and Nanchang -- to make the stops. Taiwan’s top official in charge of China policy, Mainland Affairs Council Minister Andrew Hsia, spoke on Monday about the first Chinese travelers to transit in Taiwan.
“We certainly knew of [the mainland travelers’ transition flights in Taiwan] today. They were individual travelers [and not part of a group], so we did not know how many there were or where they were heading to until this morning. As far as I know, eight travelers from three different cities made transit stops [in Taiwan]. We hope that transit stops can be opened up to all travelers from China," said Hsia.
Again that was Mainland Affairs Council Minister Andrew Hsia, speaking on Monday.
