Most people in Taiwan will enjoy a 9-day Chinese New Year holiday but the police are working hard these next two weeks to keep everyone safe.

The National Police Administration said that they are enlisting nearly 600,000 police officers to be on duty from February 1 to 15. Their main focus will be preventing theft and scams during the holiday. They will also crack down on gambling venues and try to keep financial institutions secure.

As many people will be traveling during the holiday, police official Hsu Fang-yi explained how the police will help keep travelers safe.

"We are going to set up mobile stations to help popular tourist destinations and places with a lot of traffic be safer. We will work to prevent crime and help the flow of traffic in these areas," said Hsu.

Traffic is a big issue during the holiday as many people return to their hometowns to spend the Chinese New Year with their families.
