The American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) extended Chinese New Year wishes by posting a self-made music video on YouTube and its Facebook page. The AIT is the defacto US embassy in Taiwan in the absence of official diplomatic ties.
AIT Director Kin Moy said that he wanted to express to the Taiwanese people the depth of the relationship between Taiwan and the US through the video.
"Ideally, as the director, I should take back the idea. Usually diplomats don’t sing on the Internet because if we don’t sing well, it could affect ties between the US and Taiwan. But we at AIT just love to have fun," said Moy.
Moy also said that the US and Taiwan have so much cooperation that he wanted a way to say thank you and wish everyone a Happy New Year.
The video is in Chinese and Moy speaks and the group sings in Chinese. Moy is the first AIT director of Chinese descent.
The AIT office also posted a karaoke version of their song and invited the public to post their versions on the AIT Facebook page. Creating a video on Chinese New Year has been a tradition at AIT in recent years.
