President Ma Ying-joeu sent flowers to congratulate the newly elected Legislature President Su Jia-chyuan and Vice President Tsai Chi-Chang on Tuesday.

Both Su and Tsai are opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) members, also the first non-KMT members to serve the positions.

Su said in an interview he hasn’t seen the flowers but he received a call from the president. He said President Ma hopes the Cabinet and the legislature will work together to achieve policy goals.

Su said Premier Chang San-cheng will visit the legislature on Wednesday. Su will use this opportunity to discuss ways for the Cabinet and legislature to work together on current issues.

Premier Chang said during an interview that it is a new beginning. He hopes together they can write a bright new chapter in Taiwan politics in the four months before the DPP takes office on May 20.
