The Cabinet is discussing what will be its final policy decisions before a new administration takes over in May.

Topics on Wednesday’s agenda included the timetable for the completion of the long-awaited Taoyuan Airport MRT line.

Cabinet Spokesperson Sun Lih-chyun said that the Cabinet will respect Taoyuan Metro Corp’s decision on when to open the line. He said the MRT line to Taoyuan Airport has been shown to be safe, but has yet to meet its goal of shrinking down travel time between Taipei and the airport to 35 minutes.

“We [as the Cabinet] will not make a promise to open [the MRT line to Taoyuan Airport] within three months, or by May 20th. It is a decision for Taoyuan Metro Corp. We simply follow the contract," said Sun.

Other policies on the agenda included the development plan for Taoyuan Aerotropolis and the regulation of Taiwan’s fishery industry. Other policy questions, such as whether to abandon a garbage incineration plant in Yunlin will be left to the next administration.
