In a rare moment of hope on Monday, rescue workers pulled two more survivors from a buiding that collapsed in a 6.4-magnitude earthquake that struck southern Taiwan on Saturday.
Rescue workers discovered the pair -- a 28-year-old Vietnamese woman and an 8-year girl -- in the wreckage of the 17-story Weiguan Jinlong residential complex in Tainan on Monday morning. They managed to pull the two from the rubble at about 6pm Taiwan time, some 61 hours after the quake sent the building tumbling to the ground.
Both the woman and the girl were conscious when they were lifted out of the building and sent to hospital.
The two latest survivors to be pulled from the building were some of the lucky ones. So far 36 people have been found dead at that site, while authorities say that another 122 are missing.
