Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) thanked China on Tuesday for the aid it extended after the earthquake in Tainan on Saturday. The MAC is the government agency in charge of China policy.

China sent its condolences to Taiwan immediately after the quake and offered to provide assistance through the Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS). On Monday, China sent RMB 2 million (over US$300,000) in aid to Taiwan through China’s Red Cross.

The MAC sent officials to see Chinese residents in Tainan who are quake victims. It is in close contact with Chinese officials regarding their condition and has asked them to assist in allowing victims’ family members travel to Taiwan.
