Premier Chang San-cheng has announced that flags will fly at half-mast across Taiwan on Monday, February 15, when government offices reopen after the Lunar New Year holiday.
Flags will be lowered in memory of the victims of the 6.4 magnitude earthquake that struck southern Taiwan last week. The premier made the announcement on Wednesday while visiting quake survivors in hospital.
Among the survivors Chang visited was Lee Tsung-tian, whose rescue came after 56 hours trapped beneath the rubble of the collapsed Weiguan Jinlong complex. Lee lost several family members in the collapse and number of his relatives remain missing. Lee also had part of his leg amputated following his rescue. Chang encouraged Lee to remain strong in the face of his loss.
