Rescue teams have found the remains of another 29 earthquake victims in the ruins of the collapsed Weiguan Jinlong complex in Tainan. The total death toll from the earthquake reached 96 by Friday afternoon.
A 6.4-magnitude earthquake shook the city of Kaohsiung and neighboring Tainan last Saturday. The quake caused the collapse of multiple buildings.
The collapse of the Weiguan Jinlong complex is responsible for 94 of the total 96 deaths confirmed so far. An investigation has been launched into three former executives from the now-defunct company behind the complex’s construction.
As of 3:00pm on Friday, the number of injuries from the earthquake has reached 550, 71 of these remain in hospital. Another 28 people are still missing.
