The Cabinet is set to hold a meeting on post-earthquake reconstruction on Sunday. The Cabinet meeting will come up with a plan for dealing with damage and destruction caused by the magnitude 6.4 earthquake that battered southern Taiwan last weekend.

During the meeting, the Cabinet will discuss what sources and regulations can be used for the reconstruction work.

On Saturday, Vice Premier Woody Duh asked government agencies to examine ways of helping local governments in areas affected by last week's earthquake.

Issues for consideration will include how the Construction and Planning Agency should go about helping local governments demolish, reinforce, or rebuild dangerous buildings. The Cabinet will also look at whether to revise building regulations.

The Cabinet also plans to hold a disaster prevention meeting on February 17.
