The 2016 Taipei International Book Exhibition is set to open on Tuesday.
This year’s event features Hungary as its guest of honor. At a press conference on Monday, a Hungarian official said that several writers, illustrators and artists from Hungary will attend the event to showcase the central European country’s multiculturalism.
The theme of Hungary’s exhibition is “Freedom Love”; that’s a nod to a famous quote by Hungarian poet Sandor Petofi: “For freedom, I will sacrifice my love.”
Culture Minister Hung Meng-chi spoke on Monday about the goal of this year’s expo.
“Taiwan has two main directions for this exhibition. First, is for it to be a professional platform for the publishing industry in Asia. Second, it’s to create a platform for multicultural and international exchanges," said Hung.
More than 600 publishers from 66 countries are participating in this year’s book fair.
