A Southern Taiwan Science Park official said the science park was slightly impacted by the early-February earthquake. The earthquake hit southern Taiwan on February 6, and areas of Tainan were severely damaged. The official said the harm done to the science park, however, was limited.
The official said major buildings in the science park stand firm and undamaged despite the magnitude 6.4 earthquake. Only some semiconductor and optoelectric machines activated protection mechanisms and stopped. All the factories in the science park have now resumed to normal operations.
In response to reports saying 30,000 TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) wafers were damaged due to the quake, the official said all TSMC factories are working normally but he wasn’t informed by TSMC about their losses.
The official said companies arrange their own capacities after the powerful earthquake. The quake brought limited impact to the science park. But the park will work with experts from the National Earthquake Center to reinforce factories and prevent future losses.
