The Taipei Civic Symphony Orchestra is invited to perform at the Myanmar Music Festival on Sunday.

The music festival in the Southeast Asian country was started by the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy in 2014 as a civic exchange program. Myanmar’s democratic movement leader Aung San Suu Kyi has been invited to the event in the past. The music festival also cooperated with the United Nations in 2015 to celebrate the founding of the UN’s 70th anniversary.

The Taipei Civic Symphony Orchestra conducts charity concerts and is the first orchestra to be invited to perform in Myanmar as a cultural exchange.

The orchestra presented a lifetime honorary award to former Legislature President Wang Jin-pyng who is the chairman of the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy. The award was to thank Wang for his past support for the works of the orchestra. Wang said there are no boundaries to diplomacy involving music.
