The labor ministry has found a way to make it easier for cooking instructors from Le Cordon Bleu to teach in Taiwan.
The world’s largest hospitality education institution announced in 2011 that it was planning to set up a school in Taiwan. However, it has hit several snags since then due to over-regulation in Taiwan.
This over-regulation has prevented the institution from legally setting up a school or even cooperating with the National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism. What’s more, under Taiwan’s employment rules, French chefs are allowed to teach the French language in Taiwan, but not the art of cooking.
A labor ministry official said Wednesday that the problem will be solved in two weeks by “adjusting” cooking instructors’ job descriptions. According to the labor ministry, revising regulations takes time, and relaxing rules could lead to other problems.
But the labor ministry said that decisions on whether to adjust job descriptions in this way are made on a case-by-case basis.
