Over 12 million visitors are expected to attend this year’s Taiwan Lantern Festival. The event is entering its 27th year. This year’s festival will begin on Monday and will last two weeks.
Deputy Transportation Minister Frank Fan says the event is expected to boost tourism in Taoyuan, the host city of this year’s festival. Fan said that the event will also help to boost local GDP growth.
A Tourism Bureau official said that according to an initial estimate, over 60,000 tourists from overseas are expected to visit the lantern festival. The Tourism Bureau will give specially prepared gifts to foreign nationals coming to the event.
