Representatives of the Presidential Office and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) are announcing the latest progress on work to ensure a smooth presidential transition.

President-elect and DPP Chairperson Tsai Ing-wen will assume office on May 20. The two sides held separate press conferences Friday to announce the results of a closed-door meeting held earlier in the day.

According to Presidential Office Secretary-General Tseng Yung-chuan, the outgoing government has asked the DPP to provide a list of contacts to ensure smooth communications.

Tseng also said that both sides have agreed to handle transitions at the Presidential Office and the National Security Council according to established rules. Tseng said that in addition, the DPP will be asked to give its views on the Cabinet’s recommendations for the handover of power.

Tseng said it is not yet clear when the next meeting on the transition of power will take place. But he said that the DPP has promised to provide its views on the Cabinet’s recommendations soon. He said he believes the DPP will fulfill its promise during the next meeting.
