President Ma Ying-jeou says the transfer of power from his government to the new administration should be smooth and seamless. He was speaking Monday during a swearing-in ceremony for political appointees.
President Ma’s term ends on May 20th. The new administration will be led by President-elect Tsai Ing-wen and her Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
President Ma ordered government agencies to help the new administration during the transitional period in the next three months.
“[We] must have a smooth and seamless transfer and set a good example for a transfer of power. On February 16th, Premier Chang San-cheng mentioned ‘doing a good job, doing what needs to be done, and working together for the future,’ and I agreed. The [current] administration must not be a caretaker government or passive, it must be active and hard-working as usual," said Ma.
The president emphasized that his administration is not a caretaker government even though there’s less than three months before it hands over power to the DPP.
