The incoming government expressed opinions in writing on Monday regarding issues in the transfer of power. President Ma Ying-jeou’s term ends on May 20th. The new administration will be led by President-elect Tsai Ing-wen.
One of the issues Tsai’s party, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), is concerned about is the necessity of legislation for the president’s responsibilities during the transfer of power. The other issues the DPP listed as important include the management process for the 2016 summer allotment of electricity, maintenance work for the flooding season from May to November, and the various disease preventative measures to be taken for the year.
Presidential Office spokesperson Charles Chen said Tuesday the Ma administration does not oppose legalizing transfer of power. Chen said however that his office would make sure that no part in the transfer of power draft bill be deemed unconstitutional.
