The Democratic Progressive Party legislative reform committee met for the first time on Wednesday. Forty-one lawmakers met to discuss how to reform the legislature.

Lee Chun-yi, who is heading the committee, spoke on Wednesday about their plans. "We discussed issues as minor as the seating chart for legislators to major issues involving investigative powers and whether the Control Yuan should be abolished. We’ve divided the issues into three categories. The first are those that won’t involve legal reform. The second are those that will involve legal reform, and the third covers those that involve constitutional reform," said Lee.

Lee also took part in the discussion on monitoring cross-strait agreements. "The purpose is to allow the legislature to monitor how the government discusses cross-strait issues. After we’ve clarified this purpose, we will deal with the issues one at a time. This will cover three stages: before, during and after the signing of agreements," said Lee.

The committee drafting a bill to monitor cross-strait agreements met for the first time on Tuesday.
