The foreign ministry says it is in close contact with the World Health Organization in the run-up to the annual World Health Assembly (WHA).
Taiwan has taken part in the WHA as an observer for the past seven years, participating under the name “Chinese Taipei”. The foreign ministry says that this is one achievement of the government’s policy of “viable diplomacy”.
The ministry says that the World Health Organization Secretariat notifies member countries of the assembly before inviting observers. The ministry says it will watch developments and work with the health ministry on arrangements for this year’s assembly. The 2016 World Health Assembly is scheduled to take place from May 23-28 in Geneva, Switzerland.
