President Ma Ying-jeou and President-elect Tsai Ing-wen attended a memorial ceremony for victims of the Tainan earthquake on Saturday.
Many high-ranking officials attended the ceremony to mourn victims of the earthquake, which struck southern Taiwan on February 6. The earthquake claimed more than 100 lives.
Both Ma and Tsai expressed condolences to the friends and families of the victims. Ma said the central government will continue to support local reconstruction work. Meanwhile, Tsai praised the collaboration between the central government and local authorities in the wake of the disaster.
In her address, however, Tsai said that Taiwan needs a more solid disaster relief system so that the country can better respond to future disasters.
