Gov’t agencies should continue promoting gender equality: Premier
Premier Chang

Premier Chang San-cheng says he hopes all government agencies will continue efforts to promote gender equality.

Chang was speaking Wednesday during an award ceremony in honor of gender equality. A total of 19 government agencies, including the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Labor, and the Ministry of Economic Affairs received awards for their efforts to further equality.

“The purpose of presenting this award is to encourage more outstanding females to take the lead in their workplaces, and to promote gender equality. I understand that the Gender Equality Committee has just expanded the scope of their work," said Chang. "Implementing gender equality is a long-term effort. Even as [this award enters its] 13th or 14th year, we still can’t afford to be complacent.”

Chang highlighted the government’s work to ensure women’s rights. He said that the Legislature has passed multiple acts to ensure that women have equal access to education and employment opportunities, as well as acts that protect women against domestic violence and sexual harassment. Chang said these acts have had beneficial results.
