The Industrial Economics and Knowledge Center (IEK) says there will be eight new smartphone technologies available within the next five years. The IEK’s announcement on Thursday comes after the conclusion of the Mobile World Congress in Spain last week.

According to the IEK, the congress is one of the most influential conferences in the mobile communications field. The IEK participated in this year’s congress and reported its observations in a seminar on Thursday.

The IEK says there are estimates that global smartphone sales will grow by 7.7% in 2016. The predicted revenue growth of 4.5% this will produce will fall below that of previous years. As a result, smartphone makers are looking at new technologies in the hopes of boosting sales.

The IEK said that the next five years will see the introduction of wireless charging, children tracking with GPS, voice recognition for remote controls, type-C USB, NFC safety locks, Bluetooth audio-visual transfer, device control through Wi-Fi, and remote AC control through LTE.
