President-elect Tsai Ing-wen says the semiconductor industry is one of Taiwan’s national industries. She was speaking Thursday after a visit to Hsinchu, a hub for Taiwan’s semiconductor manufacturers.
Tsai said the industry has lent strong support of the development of the internet of things (IOT), green energy, biotechnology, and national defense. She said that semiconductors are a vital pillar of Taiwan’s development.
Tsai said the government will be a partner of local businesses in the face of China’s red supply chain.
She said the government will work to provide businesses with land, a stable water supply, and a stable power supply, and assist companies to cultivate and retain talent. Meanwhile, she said, the government will facilitate collaboration between software companies in Taiwan and the US, as well as with Japan’s key component suppliers, so as to make Taiwan a global support hub for information and communication technology.
