Discussion needed on bringing children to legislative meetings: Su
Legislature President Su Chia-chyuan

Legislature President Su Chia-chyuan says that more discussion is needed when it comes to a proposal that would allow lawmakers to bring children under three years of age into legislative meetings. His comments came Friday at the legislature.

Su said the proposal should be reviewed in committee. It would need to pass three readings before it could go into effect.

Su said that some European countries allow lawmakers to bring their infants to legislative meetings in order to take care of them. There are also countries that do not allow that.

Some have suggested that allowing lawmakers to bring babies into meetings will help make the meetings less hostile. But Su said that should not be the main reason behind the proposal. He urged taking a broader perspective on the issue.
