Socioeconomic status of women rising: Gov’t

A government report shows that the socioeconomic status of Taiwan's women has risen as their level of education has increased. The government statistics office released the report on Saturday.

According to the statistics office, 45% of women aged 15 years old and above had a college education or higher in 2015. That's compared with 39.3% for men.

The statistics office says that women's overall labor force participation ratehas continued to rise to reach 50.7 percent, reflecting women's growing economic independence.

However, the labor force participation rate for women between the ages of 30 and 64 has remained significantly lower than the rate for men, with a gap of 14.5 percentage points to 30.4 percentage points.
