A massive fireworks show was set to mark the end of the Taiwan Lantern Festival on Sunday night. Organizers say that the 8-minute pyrotechnics display will begin at 10:30pm, and feature 2,100 high altitude fireworks and more than 2,500 special effects fireworks.
Authorities said they were expecting some two million visitors to the expo on Sunday alone. They say that would bring the total number of visitors for the two-week festival close to the target of 20 million visits.
Visitors will be treated to a rock performance by the band Fire EX at 7:40pm. A series of musical performances in the Hakka language was then scheduled for 8:30pm, a nod to one of the largest ethnic minorities in Taoyuan County.
Also scheduled for Sunday night was a documentary thanking all of the volunteers and workers at this year’s lantern festival, including police, firefighters, security guards, medical personnel, maintenance crews, janitors, drivers, guides, performers and lantern designers.
