President-elect Tsai Ing-wen is saying she will make Taiwan into a smart island with a great Internet of Things (IoT) network. Tsai was speaking to professionals in the IoT industry on Tuesday.
Tsai said that Taiwan is strong in the “things” aspect, especially in the production of accessories. She said the next stage is to focus on innovation in the Internet aspect of the IoT industry.
"We’ve mentioned many times that a government in the era of the IoT should have a new vision. The rules that are leftover from the industrial age should be upgraded and revised," said Tsai.
Tsai said the new administration should lead industries in innovation. The IoT can cross industries. With Taiwan’s strong technology industry, Taiwan can become a world leader in related innovation.
The new administration will let the IoT permeate education, caregiving, transportation and other sectors. This spirit of interconnection can replace the former individualistic economy. Tsai said the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) will work to make Taiwan a digital country and smart island.
