Water pipeline to spur on Kinmen development: Premier

Premier Chang San-cheng says that the completion of a water pipeline from Mainland China will spur on development on the outlying island of Kinmen.

Chang was speaking Wednesday during an inspection of work on the water pipeline. The pipeline project, due for completion by the end of 2017, will connect the island to a reservoir in Mainland China. The project is an attempt to resolve Kinmen’s long-term water shortage problem.

Chang said that Kinmen has seen economic development since postal, transport, and trade links with three Chinese cities opened in 2001. Chang said that Kinmen’s current water supply problem limits the number of tourists the island can handle. He said that solving the water supply issue will boost tourism to the island.

Chang said he looks forward to the project’s completion.
