Japan’s representative to Taiwan, Mikio Numata, says he is deeply grateful to Taiwan for its assistance following a devastating earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan five years ago.
Friday marks the fifth anniversary of the earthquake and tsunami, which killed more than 15,000 people.
At an event in honor of the disaster’s victims, Numata called Taiwan a real friend and vowed to strengthen ties between the two sides.
With donations from Taiwan, a hospital in Miyagi Prefecture was able to rebuild and reopen to the public.
