The interior ministry says that nearly 25% of Taiwan's population holds a university degree. That's according to a ministry report released Saturday.

According to the ministry, there are more than five million university degree holders in Taiwan as of last year.

As Taiwan's birthrate has dropped, the number of people pursuing university education in Taiwan has grown. The report says the number of university degree holders was at 2.82 million in 2005, a number that reached 5.06 million in 2015. The number of higher degree holders has also grown from 570,000 of 2005 to 1.3 million in 2015.

The report's results are based on surveys on people aged 15 and above.
