President Ma Ying-jeou is set to depart on Sunday to visit central American allies Guatemala and Belize. This will be the president’s 12th and last formal international trip before the end of his term on May 20.
Ma will travel with a team of officials during the week-long visit. The delegation will depart on March 13, make a stopover in Houston, and arrive in Guatemala on March 14. The delegation will then leave Guatemala for Belize on March 16, and return to Taiwan on March 19 via Los Angeles.
During the stopover in Houston, Ma will meet with US senators and visit the local facilities of the Formosa Petrochemical Corporation to highlight the growth of Taiwan-US trade.
While in Central America, Ma will meet with Guatemala’s new president Jimmy Morales and deliver a speech in the Central American Parliament.
In Belize, President Ma will meet with the Belizean prime minister Dean Barrow, along with the prime ministers of Caribbean allies Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Saint Lucia.
