Taiwan, China flags appear side by side at World Culture Festival
A rare sight

The flags of Taiwan and Mainland China have made a rare side-by-side appearance at Indian spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s 2016 World Culture Festival.

The festival, taking place in New Delhi, has attracted performers and dignitaries from around the world, including many from the Chinese-speaking world.

On Sunday, a group of 1000 ethnic Chinese from Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Malaysia flew their respective flags and joined in singing the Chinese-language song “Tomorrow will be Better”. It was an unusual sight, as Chinese objections mean that Taiwan’s flag is usually replaced with an unofficial substitute in international settings.

Taiwanese Buddhist Master Hsin Tao has made an appearance at this year’s World Culture Festival. In remarks at the festival, Master Hsin Tao said that he hopes tranquility, harmony, and love will bring the world together as one.
