President-elect Tsai Ing-wen has met with Japanese representative Mitsuo Ohashi to discuss Taiwan’s role in regional economic integration.
Tsai and Ohashi exchanged views on the future trade cooperation between the two countries. Tsai said she hopes Tokyo will soon begin to discuss Taiwan’s ambition to join the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and sign a bilateral Free Trade Agreement with Japan. Tsai said Taiwan’s participation in international trade partnerships would benefit bilateral trade cooperation with Japan.
Tsai also said that more and more Taiwanese tourists travel to Japan each year, and she hopes to continue promoting tourism between the two countries.
