Google Taiwan announced on Thursday that it has put new panoramic images of Taiwan’s highest peak, Yushan, online as part of its Street View collection.
Google Taiwan said it took its Street View team two treks up the 3,952 meter mountain to get the job done. The team had to overcome many obstacles and carry equipment weighing 20kgs to get 360 degree photos of the peak, which is also known as Jade Mountain.
Any Internet user can now enjoy a 3-D virtual tour of Yushan using the Street View app.
Google Taiwan said that besides visiting Jade Mountain online, hikers can now map out routes going up the peak using the new virtual reality images to ensure a safe climb.
This year marks the eighth anniversary of the Google Street View service in Taiwan. So far, more than 600 indoor and outdoor sites around Taiwan have been added to Google Street View’s database.
