President Ma Ying-jeou has met with a group of allied leaders during an official visit to Belize.
Belizean Governor-General Colville Young, Belizean Prime Minister Dean Barrow, and the prime ministers of St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines all attended the meeting.
During the meeting, Belizean Prime Minister Dean Barrow said that Ma’s administration has brought Taiwan and Belize closer together. Barrow said he hopes that President-elect Tsai Ing-wen will continue to develop bilateral relations. Ma will be leaving office on May 20 after completing his second term.
Meanwhile, St. Lucian Prime Minister Kenny Anthony said that Ma’s administration had changed the lives of both Taiwan’s people and the people of St. Lucia. Anthony praised Ma’s foreign aid program, which he said has benefited St. Lucia’s people. Anthony also said he hopes that President-elect Tsai Ing-wen will continue to develop Taiwan-St. Lucia relations.
