President Ma Ying-jeou has concluded the last overseas tour of his presidency with a stop in Los Angeles.
Ma arrived in Los Angeles on Thursday. He was welcomed by the Raymond Burghardt, chairman of the American Institute in Taiwan and Shen Lyu-shun, Taiwan’s representative to the US.
Ma said that he will continue to work until his final day in office.
“I’ve come so far by being consistent with my job, and I will continue to do so in the future. Premiere Chang San-cheng has also said he will do his best because we can’t take the role of caretakers. I will continue to abide by the Constitution every day of my presidency," said Ma.
While in Los Angeles, Ma also spoke by phone with former US President Bill Clinton. Clinton reportedly praised Ma’s work over the eight years of his administration, especially in the area of cross-strait policy. Ma sent his regards to presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
