Taiwan’s postal service, Chunghwa Post, held a celebration Friday to mark 120 years in operation.
To celebrate, the postal service released a limited edition medal, shaped like the first commemorative stamp it ever issued. The medal is made of pure silver.
The postal service also announced it plans to open a logistics office close to the future Taoyuan Airport metro line. The office is meant to help the postal service handle the rise of e-commerce.
Chunghwa Post was established in 1896 in Mainland China as the Customs Post Office of the Qing Empire. The postal service began service in Taiwan with its 1945 return to Chinese rule, and has served Taiwan and its outlying islands exclusively since the KMT’s retreat from the Mainland. In 2007, the service was briefly renamed “Taiwan Post” before reverting to Chunghwa Post in 2008.
