Deputy head of the Water Resources Agency, Lai Chien-hsin, says that water supplies across Taiwan are stable, but called on the public to conserve water.
Lai said Friday that all reservoirs in northern and central Taiwan are filled to above 90% capacity. Reservoirs in southern Taiwan, which often suffer from low water levels, are filled to 50% capacity or higher. Lai estimates that with the current water reserves Taiwan will not face any shortages through to the end of May.
The Water Resources Agency said Taiwan faces serious challenges maintaining adequate reserves every year around March and April. The agency says it will continue working to promote water conservation.
