President Ma Ying-jeou says he hopes President-elect Tsai Ing-wen will further friendly cross-strait relations. He was speaking Thursday at a banquet in Los Angeles.
Los Angeles was Ma's final stop on a week-long overseas tour centered on Taiwan's Central American allies.
Ma said that although his term in office will come to an end in two months, he will continue to perform his duties through the final day of his presidency.
Ma said he has put great effort into the development of cross-strait ties, bringing them to their most stable point in over 60 years. He said that before he took office, there were no direct flight between Taiwan and Mainland China. Ma said that now, as he prepares to leave office, there are 120 cross-strait flights every day. He said he hopes his successor will continue his work and make Taiwan shine on the global stage.
