Pension reform is set to be a main priority of the incoming Tsai Ing-wen administration. That’s according to Lin Wan-I, who will be part of Tsai’s Cabinet when she takes office on May 20.
Lin said that Tsai will elevate the issue of pension reform to the presidential level, with Vice President-elect Chen Chien-jen at the head of a special committee to spearhead the reform process.
Chen, Lin and other high-ranking members of Tsai’s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) discussed pension reform on Monday with officials from the Executive Yuan, which oversees the government’s personnel affairs.
Lin said that once the committee is set up, following Tsai’s inauguration on May 20, it will seek public opinion and form an action plan. Then the Cabinet will work with the Examination Yuan to create legislation to write the reforms into law.
