The Taipei Cultural Center launched its 2016 Taiwan Women’s Film Series in New York on Friday. The Taipei Cultural Center in New York said the series includes six films detailing the lives of women in Taiwan.
Award-winning Taiwanese film director Huang Yu-Shan attended a question and answer session after a screening of her film “Twin Bracelets” at her alma mater, New York University (NYU). She talked to NYU film professor Zhang Zhen and Bangladeshi director Rubaiyat Hossain about the making of the movie and the development of films about Taiwan's women.
The film series will last six weeks, with screenings of six Taiwanese feature films, including "Twin Bracelets", "The Strait Story", "The Taste of Life", "Spring Cactus", "Our Times", and "Juliets".
In line with the United Nations’ series of international women's events, the cultural center is also presenting an exhibition entitled HER Gaze, which showcases nearly 20 paintings by eight female Taiwanese artists born in the 1980s.
