Temperatures around Taiwan will remain low now that the sun has returned after two weeks of rain. The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said Saturday that temperatures will stay low until next Monday, especially through the night and during the early morning.
The CWB said the air mass currently lingering over Taiwan is colder than expected and has been upgraded from a strong cold air mass to a cold surge.
According to the CWB, low temperatures of 9-11 degrees Celsius were recorded in northern and central Taiwan during the early hours of Saturday. Meanwhile, temperatures in southern and eastern Taiwan were at 13-15 degrees early Saturday. The lowest temperature, 8.7 degrees, was recorded in New Taipei's coastal Tamsui District, an area known for some of Taiwan's lowest winter temperatures.
The CWB is forecasting that daytime temperatures will rise over the weekend to 15-16 degrees in northern Taiwan and Yilan, and 18-22 degrees in central, southern Taiwan, and eastern counties of Hualien and Taitung.
