Justice minister leads a delegation to China
Justice Minister Luo Ying-shay

Justice Minister Luo Ying-shay is leading a delegation to China for a five-day visit. That makes her the first justice minister from Taiwan to visit China in an official capacity.

The justice ministry said in a press release that the trip is aimed at strengthening cooperation and sharing experiences in the push for judicial reform. During her trip, Luo will also introduce Taiwan’s carrot-and-stick criminal policy, restorative justice, victim compensation, as well as the tasks of the administrative enforcement agency.

Taiwan signed a mutual judicial assistance agreement with China in April of 2009. That normalized the channels of cooperation between the two sides and elevated the level of exchanges.

Luo is expected to call on China’s highest prosecutor’s office in Beijing and deliver a speech on judicial reform at the National Prosecutors College.

The delegation will also meet with Taiwanese businesspeople based in Shanghai to discuss the legal assistance they need.
