On this day in 1788, Charles Wesley, British religious leader, died at the age of 81. He wrote thousands of hymns, including "Hark, the Herald Angels Sing." His brother, John, founded Methodism in 1738.
On this day in 1827, more than 10,000 mourners attended German composer Ludwig van Beethoven's funeral in Vienna. Beethoven died on March 26 at the age of 57.
