Taichung Mayor Lin Chia-lung says he wants regular flights between Taichung and Nagoya, Japan in the future. Lin was speaking on Tuesday during his trip to Nagoya to meet with the city mayor there, Takashi Kawamura. Lin was meeting with Kawamura to exchange views on tourism, culture and industries.

Taichung is part of the Central Taiwan tourism alliance which include Changhua, Nantou, Miaoli, Yunlin, and Chiayi counties. Taichung Airport and Nagoya’s Chubu International Airport are keys to expanding cooperation between the Central Taiwan tourism alliance and Central Japan’s tourism alliance which include nine prefectures.

The first direct flight from Taichung to Nagoya took place on Monday. Lin hopes there will be more regular flights between the two cities to boost exchanges between Taiwan and Japan.

Lin said Nagoya is a city that merges tradition and modernity. He said Nagoya’s car manufacturers have supported Japan’s economic development. At the same time, Taichung is a developing cultural city that is strong in the precision machinery, creative and photoelectric industries. Lin wants to learn from Nagoya’s experience in urban development.
