Justice Minister Luo Ying-shay says that China has promised to continue helping track down and repatriate Taiwanese fugitives wanted for economic crimes. Luo is currently in China for exchanges and meetings with Taiwanese businessmen based there.
On Thursday, Luo said that Chinese officials have expressed a willingness to help Taiwan capture wanted persons. However, according to Luo, Chinese officials say they must deal with cases individually, because each case carries a different level of complexity.
To date, China has caught and repatriated seven people on Taiwan’s wanted list.
Luo is the first justice minister from Taiwan to visit China in an official capacity. Luo is currently visiting Shanghai. She has also traveled to Beijing for discussions on joint crime-fighting and judicial cooperation between the two sides.
