Southbound traffic sees delays on day 2 of holiday
Lighter traffic in the south

Day two of the four-day Tomb Sweeping holiday saw more heavy traffic in Taiwan. On Sunday morning traffic slowed to a crawl on two southbound highways leading out of Taipei city.

The nation’s highway authority said that both main southbound highways – National Highways Number 1 and 3 – saw heavy traffic at around 10am on Sunday. Both highways had congested stretches of up to 20 km long, with speeds dipping to as low as 20 km per hour in some places.

Authorities say that the morning traffic was largely due to people setting out to take care of their annual tomb sweeping duties. Others were taking advantage of the four-day holiday to head to homes and vacation spots in southern Taiwan.
