Taiwanese pitcher Wang Chien-ming is making a return to Major League Baseball (MLB). The Kansas City Royals confirmed his spot on their roster on Sunday.
Wang played for the New York Yankees as an ace pitcher before he was injured in 2008. He then played for several minor league teams, but was unable to return to the major league until now.
At the Royals’ press conference on Sunday, Wang said making his way back to major league baseball was like a dream come true. He said that hard work had pulled him out of a career slump and that he would continue to do his best on the field.
Wang will be a middle relief pitcher. He said that during spring training, he had overcome a lack of consistency in his pitch.
President-elect Tsai Ing-wen congratulated Wang in a Facebook post, saying that he had earned the opportunity, and that he should enjoy the game and the cheers of the fans.
